Locum Staff Nurse (Band 6)

Location: Newport, Isle of Wight
Contract: Locum – ASAP start, 12 weeks
Hours: Full-time – Monday-Friday, 8:00-16:00 or 09:00-17:00
Specialty: Prison Services

We are looking for a Registered Mental Health Nurses with essential Prison Clearance for full-time Locum work in Prison Services, working in a high-security men’s prison in Newport, Isle of Wight.

The post holder will be responsible for managing their own caseload, including assessments, care planning, delivering interventions and reviewing care of patients located within the prison with a mental illness.

Key Responsibilities:

– To be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidenced based interventions required including health promotion within a prison environment.
– To provide a nursing service to prisoners taking account of cultural and spiritual beliefs/needs.
– To be responsible for the appropriate risk assessment of service users, providing effective advice, guidance and decision making process.
– Responsible for coordinating the care and assessment under the care coordination approach.
– To ensure a high standard of nursing in the application of clinical nursing procedures and treatment including the custody storage and administration of drugs.

Requirements:

– Registered Mental Health Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Register
– Evidence of recent CPD and compliance with NMC revalidation
– Teaching Certificate including annual update (ENB 603) or related mentoring / coaching qualification
– Prison Clearance
– Considerable experience of working in the mental health field
– Experience of providing specialist interventions for those with mental health problems, counselling techniques, CBT, motivational interviewing
– Evidence of good nursing practice
– Ability to prioritise
– Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals.
– Good interpersonal skills and communication skill
