Permanent Consultant Psychiatrist – Learning Disabilities

Location: Northampton, Northamptonshire
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full-time (FTE 1.0)
Specialty: Learning Disabilities
Salary: 150,000 + option of travel allowance (conditional)

Mind Professionals are looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist for a Permanent role in Learning Disabilities. The role of the post holder will be to provide medical input, clinical leadership, and act as the Responsible Clinician for inpatients on defined unit/units or pathway.

Key Responsibilities:

– To be responsible for leading the clinical team for a unit.
– Act as the Responsible Clinician to inpatients on the unit, participating in multi-disciplinary assessments of referrals, ward rounds and Care Programme Approach (CPA) reviews.
– To prepare reports for Managers’ Hearings, Mental Health Tribunals, the Ministry of Justice and Courts.
– To provide appropriate inputs into relevant groups as requested by line manager.
– To participate in the second on call rota.
– Ensure supervision for staff, ensuring their compliance with relevant professional guidelines and provide professional leadership.
– Demonstrate ability to review and reflect upon own practice through effective professional supervision.
– Establish clear team goals.
– Act as a mentor to newly qualified medical staff / Consultants (where relevant).
– Ensure compliance with professional standards for practice.
– Adhere to all organisational policies and procedures.

Requirements:

– Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
– Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent
– On the GMC Specialist Register
– Approved Clinician status
– Evidence of continued development specific to the job role
– Experience in dealing with challenging behaviours
– Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team and managing significant clinical risk
– Experience of working in neuropsychiatry in locked and/or rehabilitation setting
